Real4u2c,
Just to get an idea of what $50K will buy, check out www.pplmotorhomes.com in Texas. They show floor plans, have pics, etc.
Newmar makes a handicapped unit that has a lift on the passenger side mid way down. Not sure if you could find one used or not.
Good luck,
MM.
PPL isn't "typical" on pricing, since they're consignment units with a high-motivating factor being to sell quickly for the owner and for PPL to gain their sales commission on the close of a deal.
I've found that PPL has in most cases a huge price advantage for identical units elsewhere.
The bottom-line is to NOT pay over NADA Low Retail on any unit - then you know you haven't overpaid for your unit.
The trouble with buying from PPL, is that there's usually no warranty in-effect, and sometime owners dump their lemon-units at PPL to get rid of them. I've seen this happen many times over the years here. Then again, there's RVers that give glowing reliability reports on units bought used from PPL.
I have to disagree here Joe. First, PPL is a good place to 'look' to get an idea of pricing as they have a 'sold for' section showing exactly what a unit sold for. Competition is good for everybody. If a dealer can't compete, they will lose out on a sale.
Pretty much any unit you buy used is not going to have a warranty, even at a dealer. Warranties are an option or sometimes used as a tool for the dealer make the unit 'appear' more attractive, hence, a dealer included warranty (everything can be worked into the price).
A friend of mine sold his motorhome at PPL a few years ago and had a good experience.
We sold (consigned) our previous motorhome at Motorhomes of Texas in Nacogdoches, TX, just down the street from the Foretravel dealer/manufacturing. We considered PPL but my understanding is that they don't plug in their units. In the heat of August, when we put our unit up for sale, I just didn't want it sitting in the heat. MOT keeps all the units plugged-in with the air on. Also, MOT keeps the slides closed until a buyer is interested.
A unit will sell only when the buyer and seller agree on a price no matter where the unit is for sale (dealer, private party, consignment, etc.).
And to me, the goal of getting the cheapest price is not paramount. Other things are more important to me (condition, maintenance, floorplan, etc.).
Surely getting the best price is a 'goal' but not the ultimate goal.
Safe travels,
Mark
