I have to disagree here Joe. First, PPL is a good place to 'look' to get an idea of pricing as they have a 'sold for' section showing exactly what a unit sold for. Competition is good for everybody. If a dealer can't compete, they will lose out on a sale.
Pretty much any unit you buy used is not going to have a warranty, even at a dealer. Warranties are an option or sometimes used as a tool for the dealer make the unit 'appear' more attractive, hence, a dealer included warranty (everything can be worked into the price).
A friend of mine sold his motorhome at PPL a few years ago and had a good experience.
We sold (consigned) our previous motorhome at Motorhomes of Texas in Nacogdoches, TX, just down the street from the Foretravel dealer/manufacturing. We considered PPL but my understanding is that they don't plug in their units. In the heat of August, when we put our unit up for sale, I just didn't want it sitting in the heat. MOT keeps all the units plugged-in with the air on. Also, MOT keeps the slides closed until a buyer is interested.
A unit will sell only when the buyer and seller agree on a price no matter where the unit is for sale (dealer, private party, consignment, etc.).
And to me, the goal of getting the cheapest price is not paramount. Other things are more important to me (condition, maintenance, floorplan, etc.).
Surely getting the best price is a 'goal' but not the ultimate goal.
Safe travels,
Mark
I'm not seeing where you're disagreeing?:h
As stated in my previous post, both good and bad units can be bought from PPL. But rarely are they overpriced. Case in point their SOLDS section. They have sold several Class C units for up to $20K less than the retailer/used RV dealers and private sellers are asking for their same units. PPL has guided their sellers to price them @ NADA Low-Retail or High-Retail to move them fast. It happens time and time again. The values are @ PPL. Quality? Who knows? Buyer always beware.
MOT, or Motorhomes of Texas is a higher commission structure than PPL, and higher resale prices than PPL from what I've noticed over the years. They are geared to better assist sellers and buyers, and thusly charge more for this extra attention. But still just because you're buying from MOT doesn't guarantee a reliable unit either. That's part of the deal buying these units used on consignment lots anywhere.
