Quikee Step problem

RV dealer replaced the motor on mine and it works fine.

Sounds like your step motor is done.
Do a search on this forum or over at IRV2.com and you will find a ton of information.

The step motor is the same as a window lift motor. Mostly from a Ford Taurus.
Very easy to replace.

Google "Kwikee Manual #888. Page ten starts the troble shooting procedure. Odds are the motor is bad and following the steps in the manual will give an answer.

It is simple to check but buying a motor may not be, but that comes after dianossis.

If you have problems. Post asking for help. Don't buy the pigtail. Meter probes will fit in the connector fine.

Some people have said they verified a bad motor by whacking it with rubber mallet when it wasn't working...if that restored operation, it indicated a bad motor.

gears inside the motor have hard plastic vibration disintegrate. Probably need a new motor. Match it up on Amazon to get a cheaper price.

After you go through the troubleshooting steps that others previously posted, it will tell you if it is the switch, motor or control board. Post your results here and you will get better advice on how to repair it.

I would verify that the two grounds are clean under the step.

Same problem, so I replaced the motor and that didn't solve the problem. A good friend of mine in the RV industry advised that I pull the sensor, strip the wire and touch them together and if the step worked then it was a bad switch. Needless to say, it was a bad switch.

what do you mean by "operating sporadically"?

Some of this is speculation...
Fact: Kwikee (not quickee) uses a common window riser motor, Ford or Chevy depending on the model of the steps. (And possibly Chrysler as well) but you can get a new motor at an Auto Parts Store or so I"m told

Speculation: THey use 2nds not the best of the product.

I found the motor on my unit has a "Dead Spot" or two. if the motor stops on the dead spot.. NO operation.. I take a hammer, "Thunk" the motor a few times using the HANDLE of the hammer (hold the head, I don't want to smash the thing) and then get out from under and open the door.. steps extend (or close the door and they retract).

Finally I open the transmission (Careful, small parts will get lost) and move the gears so the motor stops at a different stop.

SAnd it Works.

Later I had to replace the steps (Due to operator error) and again I had to re-index the motor.
