R-Vision

Trail Lite

Is this a decent manufacturer and does this look like a good buy? NADA is about $15,000 or so.
  • We have a 2004 Trail-Lite 213 B+ that we are very happy with, bought in 2012 for a 2013 Alaska trip rather than take our fulltime rig, a 40' Tiffin Phaeton. Haven't had any problems with fit or finish and as of yet have no delamination showing in the side walls, the one you show appears to have major delamination below the driver's window above the front tire, it will not get better only worse. Do a search on the forum for delamination. No new R-Visions are being built since they sold out to Monaco about ten years ago.
  • A little hard to tell from the pictures, but appears that there is delamination driver's side front below the driver's window. Could also be right side toward the back. Again could be the way the light is hitting it, but check it out.
  • What, structurally, does delamination mean? Is it something that needs repair or is it just a cosmetic problem?

It means the outer skin of the sidewall has lost its bond with the substrate (core) to which it was laminated. This can happen for several reasons, but the big worry is moisture in the cavity that causes the delamination to spread and/or starts molding and rot inside the laminated panel (most contain something like Luann plywood and/or foam). If there is significant delamination, I would move on.

  • It does look like a bit of delam, but in a good place to fix if you wanted to.

That is a cute rig! I like the pic setups they used inside. Price seems low to me so watchout for scams. They are abundant. Make sure it is at a place you can inspect it and no cash down required to see it.
  • Considering the price is somewhat below NADA value, and assuming from a mechanic's inspection that nothing else needs any major repair, would the repair of the lamination be a costly one? It seems as though there are only two small areas affected. Of course my mechanic's inspection should tell me the extent.
  • Is it just me, or does the entire front cap, and perhaps the rear bumper, look much whiter than the rest of the rig? Not sure why that would be, unless there was some major front end damage and the front cap was repainted and/or replaced.

If that's the case, I would look it over VERY carefully. Perhaps the delamination issue might be related to this as it seems to start right under the driver-side window next to the front cap seam.

The rest of the pics look like a nice rig, but I've be very, very careful and insist upon a detailed inspection as well as an explanation for the difference in color between the front cap and the sides.

    Good Luck,

I think that is normal. The front cap, and the rear cap ring, is gelcoat and the rest is filon. They start degrading in different ways from day 1. You can polish the gelcoat to be beautiful, not so much the filon.
