Range Hood Exterior Wall Vent

I am in search of and wanting advice on how this simple outside vent is arranged on the outside wall of anyone's coach. To place it simply, do you have to manually open a flap/damper from the outside, manually open it from the inside, or does it open automatically when you turn on the hood fan over the stove? None of the above?, is it open at all times with a bug screen installed at the wall? Thanks for any input.

  • I called around and supposedly in the early days some were actuated but none of that type are available anymore...now I did a mod where I could open and close mine manually from inside which worked just awesome but then I found a electronic one...I'm surprised that hood vent companies don't intergrade a manual flapper/damper to the outside of the rig. OK...a niche here.. a rethink of the need... Some of these vents are like 15 feet on the side of a rig your just letting a damper flap in the wind? I broke off two doing this...and the tab things are a joke right?
  • There are variations.

On mine, it is just there, covered and screened with a flap under the cover. When the hood fan is turned on, the air pressure pushes the flap open. Under rare conditions, it might rattle while moving.

There are others that need to be unlatched, but it has been a while since I've seen one that has to be manually opened. Almost all are at least partially covered with respect to rain or water dripping down the side, and most I've seen are screened against large insects.
  • On mine you have to open it from the outside. Two tabs at the bottom push up lightly to release them.
