Yeah, but now Ford, since 2001 I believe, recommends 5W 20.
You are correct. Ford had been having an massive top end failure rate on the modular engines (4.6 5.4 and 6.8) and found it was oil starvation on cold start. This was found to be the fault of heavier 5W/30 oil that was spec'ed. There was two TSB's published on this in 2002 to use 5W/20.
Yeates689 here is what Ford spec's for 2013 6.8

Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil (US)

Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil (Canada)*
Ford Part Number
XO-5W20-QSP (US)
XO-5W20-QFS (US)
CXO-5W20-LSP12 (Canada)

WSS-M2C945-A
*Note: Use of synthetic or synthetic blend motor oil is not mandatory. Engine oil need only meet the requirements of Ford specification WSS-M2C945-A and display the API Certification mark.
I use Mobile 1 5W/20 and Motorcraft filter. If you do your research you will find that the Motorcraft filter's have one of the best synthetic media elements in the filter market, and the flow rate is correct for the engine.
