Rear tires balance

ALL tires should be balanced. Not doing so is plane foolish.

Why would turning tires make a difference?

Always balance them all.

The reason you balance has nothing to do with turning side to side (Steering) it has to do with bouncing up and down

If you spin something it wants to spin around the center of gravity.
Now let's take a perfect ring.. balanced. and spin it like a top It will relove around the geographic center. Which is also the center of gravity for it.

Now put a 2 ounce weight on the ring and spin it. It now spins "OFF Center"

And if that's a tire it bounces (And I might add exactly the opposite of how you think it does but that's not important)

Loss of control Rough ride. Reduced tire life

HOW TO BALANCE?

Ideally I'd machine balance on a machine designed for it (not a bubble level but the high speed spinner machine) but for big (22.5) that's not practical at most shops Truck shops perhaps but not auto size.

Belle Tire (Burton MI) put balance beads in mine. Rides smooth.

I always balance all tires using equal , but was just interested in what others do.

New question, I had a flat on a front last month on the road and had to replace tire. So I bought two new ones for the front. Now replacing the 4 old ones (6 years) with new Hancock’s AH 37s which replaced the hankook AH12 which is no longer available. The new ones up front are Yokohama’s. Wanted hankook which had proved to be an excellent RV tire but wasn’t available. Any problem with this?

You're reasoning is a bit off. Let's look at this logically. You buy 6 tires for your coach. Now, you have no idea how much, if any, weight is gonna be needed, on any one of those tires. And, you have no idea, which two are going to be place on the front, correct? But, the shop tech, pics two, ANY TWO. And, he mounts them on the wheels and then takes them over to the balancer. He balances both tires and puts a fair amount of weight on each one of them.

Now, what if he'd picked two of the remaining four? Guess what, I'd bet dollars to donuts that those TOO would need balancing. So, as has been stated, you need to balance ALL the tires because, they ALL need it. Just because you're not sitting right on top of the duals, doesn't mean that they're running smooth.

Most tire manufacturers still put a yellow paint mark on the tire that is supposed to be aligned with the valve stem. This is the lightest part of the tire. That said, most tire INSTALLERS(I won't call them all techs) are doing an entry level job, that no one else wants to do, and they just mount the tires with the mark wherever it ends up. This usually means that they have to use excessive weight to balance a tire. Here is a link from Yokohama but other tire manufacturers use the same standard. Just scroll down to "weight method".
