Rear wheel leaking oil - third time

Hi, for the third time, my rear wheel hub are leaking oil. I had new seals installed and 2000 miles later, one started to leak. I went for 100 KM and the newly installed seal leaked again, they replaced it with a different type of seal and it was good for another 2000 miles, it started to leak again.

The other side, which did not leak for 4000 miles started to leak too.

I read on some truck forum that sometimes they have to install an insert for proper fit.

I removed the air vent and it is clean, no obstruction.

Any advice apreicated, I am on the road and I keep a close look on the axle oil level.

  • It could be a hairline crack in the housing. When it warms up, then it starts to leak. This happened to me on a new Dodge truck.

  • I had the same problem on a conversion van. Turned out the axle was worn allowing seepage. Took 3 attempts before mechanic measured axle diameter and determined problem. Never leaked after new axle installed drove it about 20,000 mile

i had that. 2 times. dealer was not inserting hub properly and a circular spring that holds the seal on the axel was separated and bent. seal then leaked. tire difficult to clean, oil is thick.

Could be what happened but for me it was from 2 different shops, and 2 different seal. I hope I find a good installer, I thought it was a simple task.
