Recommendation for servicing in Calgary, Alberta

We have recently purchased an 06 Monaco Camelot 40pdq with a Cummins 400ISL. I would like to learn how to change the fluids myself but have never done so on an engine this size.

Can anyone recommend a place in Calgary that they trust and who might be willing to let me watch the process to learn for myself. I was at the Cummins Service Centre but they told me without batting an eye, it would cost over $1,000 to do a basic service plus I'm sure they won't want me watching the process.

The Onan 8000 that comes with the motorhome, I feel I can service myself.
  • It probably is too far away but I used to live in Camrose Alta. and used a shop there Camrose Truck locators. Darrin there was great to deal with and reasonable with his prices.I think the oil change was around the $300 mark but I had alot of other things done so not sure.

I know that this doesn't help you in Calgary, but if you pass thru Oregon stop at the Speedco in Aroura just south of Portland. They are able to show you most of the process just standing by the rear of your coach when they do the service. You can even go underneath your coach if you wish. Check Speedco,s website for other locations.
I don't have my last bill, but it was in the area of 230.00 for oil, filters etc. they also checked the status of my oil and coolant. Took about 1 hour.

    PS
Check on this and other RV sites for info on changing fuel filters, how many quarts of oil, DCA 4, and other suggestions. Like a car, but way bigger. 24-28 quarts of oil can be a surprise when its coming at you.

Thanks for the advice. I already have an EZ Drain Oil Drain valve that will be installed on the next oil change.

  • It's their standard Freightliner PM service - oil and filters etc.. Check their website, I think. We also get our diesel jeep oil change done in Phoenix (not at Freightliner!) for less than half what it would cost on the island.

If you plan to snowbird with your rig, it's far easier to have service done down south. We have the same engine in our DP and get our service done in Phoenix (Tolleson) at Freightliner. Talk to Kirk Ault, the Custom Chassis Service Manager. Costs about $300 for the basic service, and you can park in their full-hookup RV area for free. Best service around, hands down. We make a point of it every winter. Not sure if you would be able to watch, but I don't think you'd be able to do it for less yourself in YYC.

I've heard this $300 figure from a couple of sources on this list. That sounds like it hardly covers the cost of parts and fluids. What's included in a "basic service"?
