refrigerator out of control

I have a small Dometic one-door fridge in the MH. Last trip out, the bottom part was too cold, below freezing. We discovered that the freezer (upper) door spring was broken and cold temps seeped into the main compartment. We replaced the springs and put new gasket around the freezer compartment. But we still have the same problem. We set the thermostat at 5 two days ago checked yesterday. Water in the lower compartment was frozen. We turned it down to 4 and still had frozen water this morning. It is now setting on 2 and we'll see if that solves the problem. But we suspect that the thermostat may be malfunctioning.

Has anyone had similar problems or does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? Would appreciate any help. New fridges are expensive.
  • OK......that's a whole different ballgame

That fridge doesn't have a 'thermistor'
It has a thermostat which is controlled by a knob on front panel

Your thermostat is NOT regulating temps.

    Here is a replacement.......LINK

Here you can download a service manual that covers that model.....LINK
  • Thermistor....
If it falls out of clip or it and clip fall off cooling fin in food section the fridge will continuously cool........same thing will happen if thermistor is bad.

Find your thermistor......couple wires come into food section and on the end of those wires is a small sensor. If it has fallen down...place in plastic clip with bulb just protruding at top and then slide clip onto far right fin mid position.
Wait 24 hrs. for temps to stabilize before making any adjustments to temp control settings.

IF thermistor is in place on fin then it is faulty causing fridge to continuously cool. Replace thermistor.

Here is an easy replacement kit......LINK

    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

    Post your Dometic Model Number!

Various Makes and Models accomplish their functions in different (and in some cases Radically Different) ways.

    Please...
  • On my Norcold 5 is the coldest setting. Isn't it the same with the Dometic ? Try setting it on 3 .
  • Not sure about your model but in most RV fridges when the thermostat goes toes up the fridge reverts into mode where it runs 24/7 resulting in everything eventually freezing. If this is your problem then you purchase a new thermostat, cutting off the old one and splice in the new one - easy peasy.

I think the fridge thermostat on my trailer is operated from my 12VDC source. Might locate the board for this and make sure it is indeed getting 12VDC...
