We are relatively new to our gas powered class A (32 ft) and currently do not have a tow vehicle. As we travel more we are considering starting to tow. However, we sometimes have difficulty finding a place that we can maneuver our motorhome in to refuel without a toad, and cannot imagine being able to get in and out with one. We look for Flying J with RV lanes, and those are great, but also pretty limited in some areas of the country.My understanding is that the truck lanes in the rear of the major truck stops only have diesel fuel and not gas.So for those with toads on a class A gas RV, how do you manage to find stations that you can get in and out without a driving test.Thanks for any thoughts.

The trick is to not wait until you HAVE to stop for gas. After your tank gets below 1/2 tank, if you see a station you can pull in to...stop and fill up. We have stopped at little stores that only had two pumps outside that were parallel to the road. Easy in and easy out when towing. Other large stations often have the outside pumps that are easy to get in to or out of. If you wait too long to stop for fuel, your choices are always limited.

plan ahead ,look to fill at half tank , use a app like Gas buddy to find stations and you can then view a overhead view in the app or on google earth to plan your entry AND exit.I find after spending thousands on the RV lifestyle saving a few cents a gallon at the pump isn't a priority, we look for ease of access and a reasonable price and if we see a place we fill even if it the tank isn't real low. since moving to a DP with a trailer some of that has changed (more truck stop use) but the plan is still the same.

Said another way, with a tow, having to unhook once on a trip is more hassle than searching for those "easy" stations.

30' Class A, with toad. Fillup at most any convenience store with gas pumps. Try to get an end pump, even if you have to wait a few minutes. When you pull off the road, just take a look at what is there, and either stay or go depending on what it looks like. I try to avoid the truck stops, as I have found most to be very busy and usually rude. Watch your tail swing and/or toad when leaving. The most important thing is to know how tight you can turn, and how much room you need. Go to a parking lot with marked spaces, pull into one, and see how much room you need, and how tight it will turn. The Ford chassis will turn really tight. Tail swing doesn't give us much problem, as our gas filler is on the rear. I use the entire gas island if I need to, and get the rear next to the back pump. However, doing this can create more problem with tail swing if you try to turn tight from there without pulling through.

Speaking of rude, about the worst are the folks that pull up and block the pumps while they go inside to pay before pumping, then decide to go to the restaurant inside and eat a sandwich before coming back out to fill their tank. I have seen stations with all 8 or more pump lanes with cars and no people. Then a few come out with to-go bags, then start pumping $5.00 worth of gas. As I am going to buy upwards of $150 on a fill-up, I don't worry about blocking a pump while I fill up. If anyone complains, I will take my business elsewhere, because apparently they have all they need.

Buy yourself the "NEXT EXIT" book from Barnes & Noble all RV gas station are printed in RED- makes it easy to get gas &&&&&& if we find a easy place to gas up we highlight the exit in the book--not all are real easy but most are Rich

When traveling we try to find the next Jays we travel to Myrtle Beach as my daughter lives there .We have them marked on the map and getting there RV location finder is a plus. Also if I have no been to one I will call and tell them I am in a 36 ft coach and towing . I ask if they have a rv pumps. But you can still have problems there two. One time a beer truck deside it would be ok to park in front of the rv pumps after a short time I went in and got some one to ask them to move.
But most of the time it is easy in and out. Also the have rv parking if you want to spend the night. They also have a Denney,s With the Grand Slam Breakfast . If it is hot summer and your run your gen set and air you can get a good night sleep . We do this if we need 8 hrs of sleep and do not want the problems of setting up in the dark at a campground.

The advice here is good. Especially by not waiting until you are on fumes. I have found most travel centers have pretty good room around the gas pumps. And have an in and out exit. Drive in on the right and go between pumps and building and swing to end pump. You should have enough room and most fuel intakes are in the drivers side. Then straight out second exit. Take your time and don't be pressured. If you get in a spot where you need to backup then unhook. It isn't so bad. Good luck.

We now have a DP so we usually just fuel at the truck pumps with no problem. Before this we had a gas with toad and had the same concerns about finding a fuel stop. Check out the Pioneer Fuel web site. They are a member of the Pacific Pride fueling network that has both gas and diesel. These are unmanned truck fueling stations that use access cards. Since they are truck fueling stations, most are easy in and easy out with 24 hour access. Pioneer Fuel will set up an account for RVs with no monthly minimum or surcharges. They bill monthly or directly to a CC. At least that's the way they were set up years ago when I used them for the gasser. Their web site has more information. The only problem I saw was the price isn't posted but they used to send out an e-mail weekly on request that listed the prices at various stations. Most of the time the prices were competitive with other national chains. Again, now with DP we usually just use whatever truck stop is convenient.

You said that you are 32' with fill at rear, left-center. That is very similar to our 30', and by just watching a bit, we can use just about any local gas pump. Other than cars pulling up and stopping in your escape route, we have used Walmart (Murphy oil) stations just about anywhere. Just don't get too close to the pumps, and watch out for concrete bumpers. We did have to wait for a tanker truck one time, but he thought we could get out the other way, and apologized to us for our delay. What will get you is are the folks that pull in and park in front of you, then go into the store for a lottery ticket, two packs of cigarettes, and a beer, and have to decide which beer bottle is the biggest, then turn out be .50 short of what it costs, and have to come back out and get all the change in their ash tray to pay.

I have a 33 ft Class A. I use Gas Buddy, try to find a Flying J, parallel pumps, or an end pump when they are perpendicular to the store. Remember your tow car will follow the MH. The two things to watch out for is tail swing when turning away from the pumps and cement islands that your MH will clear but your lower tow car may not.

I just look to see if I have room to get in and out! I've been RVing since 1976 and never hit anything or had to break down the toad.

Watch the overhead canopy, watch the tail swing and look for an easy exit. If necessary, block other pumps by putting the rig at an angle. If you're not going back there, who cares, and other customers will get over it!!! Fellow RVers will understand your dilema.
