I used fake acetone on my paint and it didn't hurt it (fake acetone being fingernail polish remover). It worked well removing sticky stuff. I'm sure real acetone is a different story. Mineral spirits worked too. - Plastic knife to trim the butyl. then pull the excess off with your fingers.
Paint thinner will take the goo off.
But don't substitute lacquer thinner or acetone! They will damage the surface.
Paint thinner is petroleum based. It leaves a residue which can be removed with soap and water. - MocoondoExplorer IIPlastic razor blade and some charcoal starter/lighter fluid for the residue.
