removing tv

Does anyone have any idea how I can remove the old Sony tv in my 04 Dutch Star 3810? I have removed the screws from the bottom and it seems to be loose but will not come out of the housing. I want to replace it with a flat screen.
  • Not familiar with your rig, but after looking at one on a sale site, it appears that the TV is mounted in a box at the center of the windshield. If so, look to see if the windshield side of the box is removable. May be a couple of screws holding it in place. Ours is a different brand, and there was a strap holding it in lace inside the box. And we have a removable frame around the front of the face that allows a bit of access. You probably have a strap over the TV holding it. We changed ours out several years ago, and it works much better and is a lt lighter. WARNING!! If you do get it loose, get omeone to help you getting it out! Those old tube-type things are VERY heavy, and you can get injured quickly. Ours weighed over 90 pounds. I got a couple of big guys after I got it all loose.
  • BTW, when ours went out, we were over 1000 miles from home, So just went to Walmart and bought one that would fit. All we had were a small tool set, no instructions, and no one that could help. I did find a couple of big guys working at the campground that lifted the old one out for me.
  • Is your TV secured to a metal plate with 2 screws in the front that seem to free up the plate but the TV won't come forward? I had that mounting in my Newmar and had to remove the 2 screws holding the TV to the metal plate by tipping the TV backwards. Got the TV out ad found the metal plate had more screws in the back behind the TV. No clue how Newmar got it in there in the first place unless they put it in before they mounted the cabinetry above the dash.
  • Also on each side there are screws. Best I remember they were covered with color tape and three the carpet stuff. Look they are there.

Instead of a TV inside the box, mount a LED TV on the face. Buy a TV with two small feet near the edges and replace with hinges so you can tilt it down to store stuff behind.
  • We had screws hidden under false leather “buttons” on the outer sides of the leather wrapped box.
