Pushing air in would be better than pulling air out. That way your fan would not run in hot air.
I'd worry about the needle and seat in the carb being overpowered by the pump causing a rich mixture or worse a carb overflow while running. That generator would have been gravity feed from the factory. Your fuel pump pressure needs to be next to nothing.
More vent are not always better. It's all about air flow.

Okay, maybe I'm dumb but why wouldn't a gravity feed work in the first place? Why couldn't it be hooked up to the same feed line that the original one was? When I considered doing this that's what I was going to try.
