replacement awning

We are in need of advise or suggestions on replacing our awning fabric. The old one got shredded a few week ago. The metal frame all good. Any comments and suggestions appreciated.

We just replaced ours Saturday. We order the awning material for Dyers RV Online, only because that was the only place that we could find that provided vinyl replacements with the metal weather shield and had blue. I emailed several times with questions, and they always replied quick.

As far as replacing, we watched youtube video and had 4 people total with two ladders. We took our time and kept double checking instructions. Took us about an 2.5 hours to complete.

  • I checked out the video that Sundancer recommended on RV Geeks and found that it is great information. Well written video.

    Here ya go....Amazon
Just make sure you pin or clamp the roller, so it can't dangerously unwind.
uTube can help with this, once you know exactly what you have, for brand, model, size....etc
I recently replaced a slide topper, which came from Carefree, through Amazon, but by the time I was ready to begin, I had threw away all instructions for one reason or the other and did my own thing and turning a two man job into one and for a very easy one, at that.
    Again, uTube can really help....

    Installation isn't difficult.

As Billyboy posted there are multiple videos on the 'how to' of replacing the material. I did my 16' by myself and nearly fell off the ladder so get help rather than going solo.

:) I must not have done it right but after installing a 21' awning 25+years ago I swore I would never attempt it again. It took 2-3 of us all day. I'm sure we looked like a bunch of drunken monkeys.....

    Good luck with your project.
  • I had a local marine canvas shop make a new replacement awning for me. I gave them the pieces from the old one and they just duplicated it. They had many choices of fabric that were available. Took about one week to make and it fit perfectly.
  • Check the RV Geeks, they replaced the fabric on a motor home.

  • I replaced mine with material from Carefree of Colorado. Ordered directly off their website and had the material a week later. This replaced a very low cost fabric awning material that lasted three years which replaced the original that lasted eight years. In other words spend the extra and go with name brand in this case.
