Replacing broken DVD player

We have a 2007 Winnebago Journey with a Memorex STS71E-R DVD player that is not working. We would like to replace it. I have attached pics of the back of the player and also the control panel for the 2 TVS that select cable or antenna.
There are speaker wires plugged into the back of the DVD player as well as audio and video plugs.
Any suggestions on what to look for for replacing the player? We have a VIZIO HD TV.
Thank you!!

  • I had one of those DVD players in my old trailer and have the current “BOMB” Box of Many Buttons in my current RV. My recommendation is to get a standard Blue-Ray player with integrated Dolby 5.1 speaker outputs and use HDMI for the TV connection. If you can’t run the HDMI cable to the TV use a wireless HDMI sender. The picture quality will be much better and you can play Blue-Ray discs.
  • We also have a 2007 Journey with the same player going bad. It plays beautifully...IF you can get the DVD tray to come out. Time for a new one.

I assume the converter that Gordon Three mentions would be something like this?

  • take some masking tape and label each pair of speaker wires -front/left front/right etc. looking at the back of your unit for there labeling and note the polarity/stripe on the wires before you unhook them. you may have to cut and splice in the new speaker wires because most new systems have special speaker plugs on them now. not a big deal just do one at a time.
  • find a similar replacement, or you will need to do some rewiring
    for sound

you might want to check with a home theater installation tech
who does A/V work for a living

pay for a service call, show him what you have
maybe he can recommend replacement equipment,
  • What about the speaker wires that are plugged into the back ? How would those get connected on the newer players?
  • This is where I get most of my stuff for most of my life. There are not many left to choose from any more. My last DVD player replacement I had to update to Blue-ray, which still plays everything I have.

  • Take a look on eBay and Craig's for a like kind replacement.

A Blu-ray replacement won't have those red yellow white outputs which are likely used by the splitter control panel.

Otherwise you're looking at a Blu-ray home theater unit and an HDMI to composite video converter.
