Replacing compartment door latches

Well I just did it for my Fleetwood Bounder, but no idea if your compartment doors are the same. I assume you are talking about your outside compartment doors. I removed the 4 screws on the back of the handle, took the handle off and unhooked the rods that control the latch. Then I removed the two screws holding the latch to the door frame. Then I took a putty knife and wedged it underneath the latch frame doing both sides evenly until I was able to pry it out. Somebody on this forum gave me these directions and it worked fine.

If it's anything like the latches on my Journey, you will have to remove the pop rivets that hold the latch to the door. Sometimes I will drill them out. Sometimes I just use a sharp chisel and cut them off and punch out the core. There should be a cover on the back side of the latch handle that you remove to disconnect the rod to the latch. Then just reassemble with the new latch and pop rivet the new one in place.
I have been replacing mine with one that has an aluminum latch instead of the plastic one.

There is a good chance they are Fastec locks and if you look around the web site you will find engineering drawings of the locks.

Winnebago uses Trimark latches - at least all I have seen are. The handle assembly on mine is held on with four screws. The plunger assembly is held in place with pop rivets. I drilled the pop rivets out when I replaced a plunger.
Metal replacement plungers were available from RB Machining but the web page showing them is dead. I sent them an email asking if they are still making them.

have done this several times...quite easy the hardest part is drilling the rivet out, but with a good drill no problem...good luck

Did you find any latches to replace them with?

I just got around to removing the old latch. Now my problem is to figure out how to secure the new latch to the door. I am thinking of self-tapping screws, but I don't know if they will be secure enough. I could sure use some suggestions on this one. I looked at rivets at Lowes and Home Depot and they are not nearly big enough.

Our new latches came with screws.

Mine did too, but the holes are too big for the screws.
