We got rid of the day/night shades and replaced them with cordless cellular blinds. They are light enough to let light in during the day but keep wandering eyes out. In the bedroom we installed blackout versions so it is nice and dark for sleeping even when there are security lights outside. It was one of the best changes.
If you are in the NE you can have custom cut blinds at Menard's while you wait. I have seen some at Home Depot and Lowe's but they did not rock my world. Any of the blinds dealers can order exactly what you need within a week or so.
