Replacing decal stripe

Looking for help and ideals for fixing my Winni decal stripe all the way down the drivers side. Itasca 34'. WINNEBAGO does not have it and the auto body shops are not helpful either. We just want to overlay the 2.5" stripe. A lot of the vynal web sights cannot match the color. Please send your ideals. Thanks
  • Looks great Dale! Hopefully it will hold up longer this time. :)
  • I repainted them on my older m/h. I went to Sherwin-Williams and got the correct paint in the correct color. I shot it on and wouldn't even attempt to use anything from a spray can.
  • Sign shops. they can match design perfectly My 2003 Pace Arrow had a maroon stripe with curves. They couldn't match the color but had on e even nicer. I was going to strip the old they said no.. They made the new one slightly, wider went over the old and you can't tell. Looks beautiful for $480.00 Look for a shop that does wraps.
  • I striped off the old sun stroked black decal and repainted using Rustoleum spray paint. Three summers later the tint of the paint color changed with exposure. Last summer repainted with automotive paint that I added additional UV protective additive beyond what the paint base had.

Changed the color from black to burgundy. A little less monochromatic.

  • I'd strip it off and either replace it repaint it. If you replace the whole thing, does it have to be the exact color? Or would a nice, compatible color work?
  • When we were faced with this same issue we removed the striping and painted on the new one. We just felt that painting the old decal was not permanent enough.

X2. My opinion is marine shops put so many of these on that they do a better job than most auto body shops.

  • If you have a SIGN shop near you, I am sure that they can match the color vinyl as well as apply it or give it to you to apply. Since sign shops deal with the vinyl all of the time you might do better letting them apply it for you.
  • I renewed the vinyl stripes on a previous RV by carefully masking them and spaying them with Rustoleum Vinyl & Fabric paint. That was several years ago, and it still looked good last fall when I saw the old coach. Make sure you get the Vinyl & Fabric though, not just the Vinyl paint that's indoor only. Dupli-Color also has a vinyl paint, and may have better color choices for you. Since I was doing all the striping, a reasonably near color match was good enough for me.
