replacing front door

I have discovered that there must have been a long term leak either in the bottom of the window or on the top seam of my entrance door and now there are little peaks and cracks in the covering on the inside of the door and the screws just pulled out of the piston plate on the door and rusty water came out. I have looked on Ebay and another couple of websites and it appears that there are relatively inexpensive doors available.
Has anyone done this themselves and how much work is it.I'm getting tired of having to pay exorbitant labor charges and am wanting to attempt this myself.

  • I took mine apart. Reinforced it with treated lumber. Sanded the rotten wood off the back of the fiberglass and put it all back together with liquid nails. It can be done.
  • I have a brother who has or is about to replace the innards of his door. I haven't seen it but he says the door will come apart and he can replace the wood inside. If you're handy it might be worth a look.
  • I assume you are looking at the COMPLETE door. The Door and Frame as a complete unit. Attempting to replace JUST the door will result in a complete snafu. RV doors, especially Motorhome entry doors are not like a home door. Even under warranty, we replace the COMPLETE Door and Frame assbly. They do not sell just the door. Doug
