replacing headliners

My '92 Pace Arrow is beginning to lose its headliner. The adhesive that keeps it in place is aging out and the vinyl liner is pulling away from the roof and end seams. While it is not unsightly now, I know that it will only get worse. I have no interest is giving up my one and only RV and I am asking if any of the forum menbers had to deal with this issue and who thay used to remedy the problem. Thanks
in advance to the responders. Jim
  • I pulled it down by slipping back part of the headliner and used spray-on contact cement on both sides of the foam as well as both surfaces the foam originally adhered to. Then I pressed it back in place. I have one small bulge but other than that it looks pretty good. Thankfully, I'm not a perfectionist.

  • I also had a problem with a loose headliner, got it fixed at an auto body upholstery shop that did work on restoring the old cars
They only had to slip back small part of the liner and put in a glue wand then spray worked for me

I would probably just use some pretty screws along with those fancy dress up washers in some kind of a pattern, 6 inches apart or so and be done with. I mean there's only so much one would want to do with an old coach such as this.
  • I used Arrow type staples to staple mine up. Does not look bad at all. My eventual plan is to glue a carpet to the ceiling.
  • If your headline is like mine in my 1992 Ultrastar, it is vinyl attached to foam attached to luan. The foam is failing due to age and hence the drooping.

I removed the ceiling panels, reused the vinyl, used new foam and luan and re-installed the ceiling panels. The new foam was underlay for Pergo. Time consuming but not that tedious. I have heard of some that remove the vinyl, scrape off the foam, and contact glue new automotive headliner.
