Replacing hose on reel in wet bay

I have searched for an answer as to what water hose holds up best on the hose reel in a motorhome and really haven't got an answer.

The hose on my reel is old, twisted and kinked. It is white and original to my 2006 motorhome. I see several different options in a 1/2 inch 50' drinking water hose. There are white ones, white w/blue stripe and blue hoses. Is one hose better than the other when used on a hose reel?

I have fixed the problem of spooling the hose onto the reel so hopefully no more kinking.

  • Thank you for all the reply's. After reading all the responses I think I will go with a white hose or white w/blue stripe.

    Thanks again
  • The one you have lasted 10 years. I'd by the same thing!
  • You can buy very durable food grade hose from various sources online and add your own brass fittings for the ends. You can usually buy it by the foot, with 1/2", 5/8" or 3/4" ID so you get exactly what you need and it will probably last as long as your RV.

  • Crasster,

My Walmart hoses seem to kink easily. I'll upgrade to something else if and when I get a leak.
  • We've always just used the white ones from walmart.. They have served well.
  • If money is no object. Amazon Hose has some really nice ones.

  • I've had both the white and the blue, and we now have a hosereel on this coach with the white hose. Honestly, the blue hoses we had from Camping World (no-kink) were too thick and heavy for a hose reel, and often would not even uncoil on the ground for a few days in the sun. I didn't care for them. Go for the standard white.
