Replacing sofa?

We're looking for our first motorhome, and one thing that has been a bit of an issue is sofas.

I've found a number of MHs that look good except for the fact that they have 2 sofas. I cannot sit on a sofa. I need a comfortable chair. Two sofas is a deal-killer for me.

I know in travel trailers, the area under the sofa is often occupied by the fresh water tank or other necessary items. I'm not sure how often something else is built in under the seat of a MH sofa.

Generally speaking, how hard is it to remove a motorhome sofa and replace it with a recliner, or whatever? Is it often an easy swap? Is there anything that makes this sort of swap complicated?

Thanks,
Wayne

  • DW's plan is to find a rear/half bath floorplan with kitchen layout she likes and not worry about the 2 facing sofas, since they are both coming out. One will be replaced by recliners, the other by a custom entertainment/PC center with the TV on a power lift. After that, we'll probably remove the front TV and covert that space into stowage. There are a lot of RV remodelers out there that do excellent work at reasonable prices.
  • Our sofa has nothing under it but space for storage (the front foot panel slides to gain access without lifting the seat) and there are seatbelts that could be used. It would be easy to take the sofa out and put a couple of recliners in. The only thing you will have to make sure what you buy will fit thru the door. Many buy Lazy Boy recliners/chairs as many are constructed so the back slides up and off and then you move the chair in two pieces in thru the door and then put the backs back on. You could go shopping at the Lazy Boy store and take the motorhome with you - I'm sure they would help move the new chairs in and get them set up.
  • When we ordered our RV we opted for two recliners instead of the sofa-bed.
