Replacing Thethrod toilet with Dometic

Replacing existing Therford toilet with a Dometic. Parts supplier says I need a mounting kit for this which, according to the description converts 4 bolts to 2 needed for the Dometic. Has any one done this replacement project? Do I need this $45 plate? Utube videos seem to show a direct drop in replacement.
Thanks to all who share their knowledge.

  • I just did this last month. The Dometic 310 fit right on the flange the Therford had been on. You'll love the Dometic, uses a bit more water but water in the black tanks your friend. While you have the toilet out, put a shark bite shut off it the supply line. My Therford went TU on a weekend so I had to shut water off to the entire 5W. Won't happen again with the shut off.

I went the other way.. No difference in the flange. No adapt-a-kit needed with one small exception

The Fresh water side the hookup is different... How I modified mine

Added a shut off valve (1/2 inch IPT to compression fitting)

Used a flex hose (1/2 inch one end. Compression fitting the other matching valve)

now I can shut off the water to the toilet without shuting off entire RV if there is a problem (Yippie)

Our Thetford Elite only has two bolts.....??

    Yeah....ours, too.
  • I did mine and the flange looked just like the ones in the house and I didn't buy an adapter. Take your old one off and look, worst thing that could happen is you are at Lowes or Home Depot buying a flange. This was just this summer. It did not line up square so I loosened the big clamp and twisted it straight. took about 1/2 hour.
