Residential Refrigerator Issue

We recently purchased a 2014 Dynamax DX3 with a full residential refrigerator. 4 days into our staying in the RV it stopped cooling. We think the condenser unit is out. Now we have a conundrum... RV appliance repair companies don't work on residential refrigerators and household appliance repair don't work on refrigerators in an RV. This is crazy.... any advice?
  • What brand is the fridge? Whirlpool sent two techs to our RV site to work on our Whirlpool washing machine in the RV (turned out they didn't have to pull the unit - just reset some codes). The company that Whirlpool sent works on appliances in stix 'n brix, too.

  • Probably have to call around some more, in our yellow pages there are several pages of appliance repair companies, bound to be one willing to come out. There are mobile RV techs that have knowledge of residential fridge repair, worse comes to worse might have to take the rig to a RV service shop if all else fails. Hopefully you can still enjoy your current trip, maybe go old school and use a cooler to get by. I know in our 3 decades of RVing we have had to resort to doing this when our fridges went on the fritz. Good Luck!!!
  • If you can get it out the door I would be looking to just replace it.
  • We were able to get someone to look at our refrigerator. Come to find out, it is a BUST! APPARENTLY, this was an existing issue that had a bandaid fix on it. So... we have to get a new one. Fortunately, we can squeeze it out b of the door without dismantling the RV. Thanks for the advise.

Replace it with an RV fridge. Have a rv mobile repair guy do the installation. If you take rv out you won't have a fridge with the residential one.

Huh? Why wouldn’t they replace it in kind. And if they don’t why won’t they “have a fridge?”

BTW I don’t expect an explanation to the unintelligible response.
Also do you think it’s actually plumbed and/or wired for a RV fridge? Either 2 way or 3 way?

Easy button is toss the old one out the door, roll in a new one, plug it in, secure it, however the old one is secured and drive away. No special help required from a tech. Could do it in the appliance store parking lot and pay a couple of the kids that work there to lift them if the OP can’t.
Repairing old appliances is rarely a financially sound decision anyway.
  • Having had both, the rv and the residential, no way would I ever go back if I had to pull the rv one out. More useful room, better temp control and overall nicer appearance in our rig.
  • You say it stopped working. Is there power to the unit? what are the symptoms? Brand make model.

Appliance parts pros have answers to your questions and often fixes are not that complicated. As far as the comment regarding repairing

older appliances to that I say hogwash. Dryers are tossed due to non heat..10 dollar sensor.... water pump on washer 25 dollars or less...Of

    course I am

handy and can repair my "stuff". There is a "handy man" near you, look on CL or other sites, mobile RV mechanics that can give a fair and

accurate estimate of what you are facing.
