RIP Propane

Class A's started going all electric more and more years ago and we are now seeing that trend move down the line to Class C's. It is now well know that you no longer need propane to dry camp. I still buy propane for our company equipment and are finding it harder and harder to buy as more stations quit selling it due to lack of demand.

Down the road it may be only available for the remaining forklifts etc. from specialty suppliers. This could be a real pain for people with older model RV's that still use propane. Has anyone else experienced more difficulty in buying propane than they used to?

Actually I've heard over 50% of all Class A's are 'all electric' now. If you look at even Class B's they are mostly 'all electric'. You don't need propane to dry camp. You will run out of water before you come close to running out of diesel that heats your coach and water. The 'you need propane to dry camp' myth has been debunked many times by people with real experience with both.

I see you are in Canada so maybe that's the story up there, but here in the US LP is not only readily available it's still a staple fuel source not only for Rv's but homes as well. We just built a home and the water heater as well as the fireplace both use LP. I opted for an electric range, but could have chosen LP for that as well. While selecting an LP company I had about a dozen to choose from in our area. For the RV, any dealership, CG and farm supply stores can fill LP. In terms of efficiency, my coach has an LP only hot water, stove, and the fridge is dual fuel. We camp often in cooler weather and one tank lasts me at least a year.
  • If the only propane sold by propane dealers was to RVs, they would have went out of business a long time ago. Propane is the fuel of choice to heat millions of homes. That isn't going to change overnight or over the next 20 years. Like many industries, there are consolidations in the propane distribution industry. And there are many businesses that have offered propane as an ancillary product that have chosen to quit due to low profits, high costs and high regulatory requirements. But propane isn't going away. It would be safe to bet that propane will be around longer than your RV or you.
  • Cgs sell propane....lucrative for them based on prices I have seen

    Bulk propane dealers sell propane

    Farm Feed/Seed stores sell propane

    Tractor Supply sells propane

    CW sells propane

Just don't see when a small percentage of 'electric' rvs will dampen propane sales.

In all our travels around/across USA never had issue finding/getting propane.

Don't know about 'across' the borders but that isn't a concern of mine
  • Not in our area, south central Pennsylvania. There is a major propane distributor a few miles away. They're delivering propane every day.

I don't want an all electric RV. They don't seem as self sufficient.
