Road surface transfer to steering wheel

I just bought a 2007 Damon Outlaw (Workhorse W24) with less than 12,000 miles on the odometer.
I installed a Safe-t-Plus steering control (Blue) and that seems to take care of the wandering problem. I still feel that I am getting a lot of road surface bumps transferred to the steering wheel. Any idea what would cause this and is there a fix. I don't overload the coach and I run 100 psi in the front tires.
Ideas? Comments?
Thanks.
Jim

  • Had the coach weighed and I was running too much pressure. Reducing the pressure has corrected some of the problems. I am now going to install Koni shocks(Front 8805 1001). I'll let you know if this solves the rest of the problems.
  • The tires are new. Just had them changed a month ago. I will get the coach weighed within the next couple weeks. Then adjust the PSI and hope that works. I'll let you know the results.
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions.
    Enjoy your day.

  • How old are the tires ? Older tires tend to be less flexible and transfer more road feeling.

Some people actually like to feel the road :P
  • A weight check and tire pressure adjust is cheap and easy so do that first. If the shocks are factory original it time. Hit all the front end grease fittings with a few strokes won't hurt either. A front end inspection, not an alignment, might be needed.
  • We run 100lb in front and 85lb in the rears on our '07 Outlaw w/ W24, with a Safe-T-Steer and Bilstein shocks. The tire pressure was set by use looking at Michelin tables for weight.

We don't have a problem with excessive impacts coming through the steering, so maybe shocks are the issue.

If the shocks are good, the next thing to play with is the tire pressure...I have been told.

    Best luck
  • Koni FSD shocks will help. Most other shocks are gas charged and they will transfer road bumps back through the steering wheel.
  • I'm guessing your at LEAST 15psi to high in the front tires. You can see ride improvement with every 5psi reduction in tire pressure.
  • First off...how much does your coach weigh? At least axle weights...I'm guessing you have way too much air in your tires. Also, Koni's will improve the handling to a degree. Weight distribution could be a factor too. Without the axle weights, you're punching in the dark.....Dennis
