My coach tires are real close to needing to be replaced and at the time of replacement i want to get set up with a spare tire and a carrier of some sort as i have no room for a spare mounted on a rim in the coach or my toad i have been looking at the Roadmaster carrier because of the ability to unpin and lay it down to enable opening the hood on my pusher i pull a Honda CRV as a toad and i am just curious as to the performance of this carrier in this type of situation thank you

Never used one but saw a display at Quartzite AZ RV show and it looked built really good, I say do it, its always better to have a backup spare tire while traveling than not have a backup.

Just commenting to get notifications. I'm interested in hearing from anyone that owns one of these. I can see where it might get in the way if you have a toad, or need to check fluid levels. My 22.5" tire weighs in at 120 odd pounds and I'd like to know how easy it would be to horse around to get in the back of the RV and add oil or antifreeze to my diesel.Most of us have stopped carrying a spare tire and wheel as they take up so much room and weigh so much.Maybe a carrier underneath would work better, and the ERS could get it off and the bad tire back on easier then I could.

I've seen that tire carrier, and like it. If I ever decided to carry a spare tire, I'd probably get that carrier. Seems like it'd be much, much easier to work with the spare tire on this rack than it would be to wrestle one out from underneath or on the roof.The main issue I have with it, and whole idea of a spare tire: By the time you spend the $$ for this rack, an extra tire, and an extra wheel/rim to put the spare tire on....You're going to have nearly $1000 or more tied up in it. Tied up in something that there's a really good chance you will never use. That's not to mention that the spare tire whether you ever use it or not will eventually rot/age out and have to be replaced every so often, so that's another expense. For me, just not worth it, I'd just assume let ERS handle it if I ever do have a flat. However, obviously many feel differently about that.

My Blue Ox tow bar can be fitted with 2 or 3 different length hitch adapters. Not cheap.

Talked to the inventor at a Wally Mart stop in Wyoming. Talked to him a bit and then talked to him at the FMCA convention in Indy. This setup is well thought out and is easy to use. Expensive but the easiest way to handle a mounted spare

I bought one and had it installed while in Quartzsite. I already was carrying a spare tire but no wheel. Went down to the Loves tire store and had my tire mounted on a wheel. I am a 68 year old female that drives a 40 foot DP and tows a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Because I travel alone, I like the security of having a spare. Hopefully I will never have to use it. After it was installed I tried lowering it to the ground and then raising it back into position. It was an effort but I was able to do it. Speedco had access to fill and check my oil without lowering the tire. I am very happy with the purchase!

Just bought one last week. It does count as tongue weight, but a 10k hitch even reduced to 5k by adding this extension is not an issue. As for the actual spare, I have no intention of buying a new tire, a used wheel and a used, but inspected take-off tire is my plan, wheel and tire run about $150-200. Should I have a flat, I'll be able to change it or ERS can, but I'll not be at the mercy of a $1000+ tire of questionable heritage. I'll be able to get to a dealer where a new tire can be had or ordered thru the Advantage program. As for wrestling it into place I will carry an extension to the handle and if needs be make up an alternate attachment point.

Bought it, tried it, returned it. Tire mounted on it like a force multiplier. Hitch tension was just too much just moving the tire around by hand. I couldn't imagine the forces placed on the hitch while hitting bumps on the road.

Hello all I've been real busy and not here but i purchased the Roadmaster tire carrier and i gotta tell you that it is the cats meow for a carrier my toad hooks up and tows just fine and the pivot makes access to the engine compartment a snap if your thinking of a spare tire carrier this one is definetly worth its weight in gold happy motoring
