Rock chips on Jeep

Trying to find the best solution to protect front of jeep wrangler . My Endeavor DP has the large mudflap across rear but still getting chips on front of Jeep. I have a windshield cover that is also rubbing paint off from movement of wind while driving. Has anyone found a good solution for the towed unit to protect it. Thanks.

I have seen plenty of bras that vibrated enough to rub paint off of the vehicle. Personally I would rather live with a few paint chips than deal with an ugly bra.

  • I have been towing my Jeep Wangler Unlimited without a full length mudflap, so far it was done good. No chips or cracked glass. Unhooked from the MH, drove around with the Jeep, now I have to have the window replaced when we get back home. Never know how thing are going to go.
  • I use Road Master Guardian Shield, and have on past three Jeeps, no rock chips on Jeep. Have full Mud Flap solid on back of coach.
  • We just started experiencing this with our present Wrangler ourselves. We have flat towed our previous Jeeps for well over 100k miles combined and behind three different coaches. This Wrangler we have lifted and started experiencing more rock chips on the front than I can live with.

We started hauling the Jeep in our enclosed trailer along with our Harley but for short trips of hop, skip and jump style of trips the trailer can be an inconvenience at best. For this I installed a Roadmaster Tow Defender. We used it a few times last year and I did notice a reduction in chips as well as small rocks or pebbles on the front bumper and cowl area vs. prior to the Tow Defender.

I have a full review and write-up here if you wish to view it.

Also, there are many that will voice the opinion that the mudflap is the issue. It is NOT. This is not my first rodeo and I have had full-width flaps on both previous coaches at the same height from the ground as this one. This coach has less porpoising than the previous as well due to the tag axle. I towed previous Jeeps with the exact setup, I had made no changes to the coach and all ride height inspections are to OEM specs. The change from one Jeep to another was the issue, not the coach.

  • IMO, it is a Jeep, not a Maserati, it is supposed to have nicks and scratches. I don't worry about it.
However, I have a full front cover for the PT Cruiser. It works very well, and so far hasn't done any paint damage.
Now, if I could just remember where I got it...
  • Several years ago we made an Alaska trip in a caravan. One of our companions had a DP similar in size to ours with a solid, $500 "Zephyr" Board as a rock guard. Our rig had a $100 Camping World "Rock Solid" guard that has multiple heavy plastic strips behind the rear wheels. We both towed Jeeps and traveled the same roads together at the same speeds. At the end of a day of rough roads, our toad was covered with road dust but no rocks. Our companion's jeeps hood and roof were covered with rocks. His guard acted as a big scraper and stirred up the rocks.

Back in my JEEP days we used to use something called JEEP BODY ARMOR made of rubber. These were available then from the various JEEP PARTS CATALOG. Im sure you can find this on AMAZON...
