Roof vent covers over Fantastic Fans

I started to help a friend install his vent covers today over his Fantastic Fans. I installed my own on a couple of MHs without any issues. The vents I covered had tin flanges extending through the roof and the cover brackets were drilled and screwed to the flanges, very simple. On the FFs the flange is made of plastic and is inaccessible on the inside where the fan sits. It looks like we could use self tapping screws in the plastic to attach the brackets that the covers are bolted to. I am a little reluctant to just drill the screws into the plastic and mount the brackets.

Has anybody else done this or is there another method of mounting the covers?

Thanks, Terry

  • I installed mine per the instructions by drilling into the plastic and using the self tapping screws. I think there is a hole you can add a screw directly thru the bracket into the roof if you think it's necessary. I can't remember if I did that or not. I did have to remove, then replace some sealant on the flange that was preventing the mounting bracket from sitting flush to the roof. If you don't want to drill into the roof for extra support, adding some adhesive between the bracket and the roof should help.
  • Not sure mine was same but I did have problems. Had to remove fan housing so I could drill down at an angle and then use provided hardware. Two person job - one inside on step ladder and one on the roof. Sorry that coach now gone so no pictures, just my memory.
  • The self tapping screws might work but it may be better to predrill the holes to prevent the plastic from cracking.
