Rubber Roof Coating on Fiberglass roof

I have a 12 year old Manadalay 40 foot with a fiberglass roof.
I have the roof cleaned regularly and waxed.

When I had it cleaned this week the wash guy said the caulk needed to be replaced and he recommended I seal the roof with a rubber coating.

I have had the caulk removed and replaced before but never had a rubber seal applied.

Do I need this for a fiberglass roof, have you guys done it and how did it work out, which type of rubber sealant is best ?

Thanks
  • I recently had all the caulk removed from the roof of the rig and replaced with new caulk. In my experience, the caulk gets blasted by the sun and slowly shrinks and deteriorates. Removing and re-applying the caulk is cheap leak insurance.

I can't imagine covering an entire fiberglass roof with rubber.

Was he talking about Flex Seal? You definitely don't want to use that product on your roof.

Use Eternabond on the seams and you will be good for a long time.
  • Personally I would never put rubber over fiberglass. Fiberglass roofs are much more long lasting than rubber will ever be. If your repair guy is using Eternabond to seal the seams thats OK, but not an elastomeric roof coating over fiberglass.

Was he referring to putting eternabond on the seams? I am not sure why you would put a rubber roof over a fiberglass one...
