Running Both Air Conditioners On 30 Amp System

I have a 30 amp system. I can run both at once with no modifications. Both compressors WILL NOT start at once. My electronic climate control will automatically shed off one then the other. I can even turn on the microwave when both are running and one will shed until it is shut off. I would think that this could be done manually as well. If you exceed the draw of the 30 amp breaker, it would probably trip.

One way of accomplishing running two air conditioners is to have a hybrid inverter/charger that allows load support. The momentary surge is taken care of by the inverter. I use this constantly, even if I'm plugged into a 50 amp pedestal.

An adapter to plug your 30 amp plug in to a 50 amp service outlet could be made to get you one leg of the 50 amp breaker for a total of 50 amps available.
The problem is that if I read it right, you have a 30 amp coach so even tho you can get more amps out of the pedestal, your 30 amp main breaker will limit what you can actually use.
To use both AC it is better if you have some type of an Energy Management System.

If you have a large Front-Off-Rear switch in a cabinet somewhere, then your genset likely will run both ACs at the same time. But your 30 Amp shore power cable is the issue. If you want to, you can change that cord over to a 50 Amp...but that costs far too much. There are some things you can do...

1) Wire a heavy duty cord directly into the rear AC with a 120 Volt double pole, double throw relay ($10 for the relay) so when you plug the cord into a spare 20 Amp outlet on the power tower, the relay closes and supplies voltage to the rear AC. When it's not closed, the Genset does. The cord is just run through the bedroom window. Since most power towers in RV parks are near the rear of the drivers side, it's not that difficult to toss it out and plug in.
2) In the genset compartment, there's a 4-square metal box. You remove the cover, find which wire goes back to the rear AC, then install a switch between the genset supply, and a heavy duty extension cord which plugs into a shore power 20 Amp outlet. This is probably what you're thinking of about the article you read.

Of course you could get all fancy with a 50 Amp adapter adapted just for this purpose but simple is better. And cheaper.

This is good information! I've never been able to run both of my AC units on 30 amps in the past.

I can be done but not in all situations. I have a 50 amp coach but both A/C's, with the second being a prior owner install, are 13.5 BTU capacity and will consume about 1300 watts or just under 11 amps when operating. When I'm on 30 amps with both going the fridge and water heater go on gas and no microwave, hot plates hair dryers and such if both A/C's are on. I'm effectively doing manually what an EMS does automatically.

I have volt and amp meters so I can manage my AC and DC power usage along with hard start capacitors on both A/C's to help reduce start current surge. So far no problems. It also helps to have a simple coach. The only lock out is the slides can not be extended unless the emergency brake is on. No limits regarding electrical loading.

Lot of myths by guys who never actually measured what they have.
My 15,000 BTU Carrier was taking 8.6 amp while running.
My 13,500 BTU AC takes 6.7 amp.
Sure in California once they start, they don't shut down till I do it at night, so I don't have to worry about surges.
Just make sure you have heavy cords and good connectors.
Lot of my 30 amp plugs like to overheat on prongs.

We have an Alfa. 50 amp and 2 AC's.
All you Have too do is run everything on propane. Do not use microwave, hairdryers, electric coffee makers.

Then your 30 amps can handle it.

My question is your sun crusier, does it have a Inverter/Charger or just a converter?

It would be nice if those people who say two ACs can't be run on 30amp system could read and understand these testimonials.

when running 2 ac's I put frige and water heater on propane
plenty of power left for sat,tv,battery charger, led lights
