My last time camping at Jasper National park, in the unimproved area, a DP sat about ten sites down, and its main engine ran continuously from when they pulled in the same day I arrived and it was still running when I left two days later.
It wasn't loud as far as diesels go, but gosh, why would they do that to their neighbors, or their engine - it can't be good for the engine to just idle for days on end.
