running gen with slides open and fumes

Anyone experience fumes from the gen when slides are open? This is our second Cl C but our first with slides. Gen is on while I am on the computer sitting at the dinette with the slide out. CO detector went off. I checked for possible leaks and noticed a gap in the corner of the slide at the bottom. Is this normal? I can't see anything from the outside. Want to know before I take to dealer and they give me that double talk. We are still under warranty.

BTW - We have had this 2013 for less than 4 months and have had nothing but problems from the beginning. Seems like every week there is something breaking (refrigerator fan replaced-still loud, tv won't turn on-got new one, cabinet drawers broke off their slides, bus window latches broke, 2 window shade strings broke, latch for sunroof vent broke after 3 weeks, sawdust & styrofoam keeps coming out of ceiling vents even after vacuuming, countertop has cracks. Will never buy another Fleetwood, should have kept our old 2004 as we did not have 1 single problem for 9 years that is why we returned to Fleetwood to buy new......

  • I have a slide over the generator and experienced the same problem. Jayco had drilled about a 3" hole under the kitchen cabinets for water pipe access. I sealed it and that ended the problem, but I am still reluctant to run the genny with the slide deployed. Hope your solution is fairly simple...
  • let me put it to you this way, the fumes are a safety thing and if they make you sick or worse, then the dealer and the manufacturer have a serious problem on their hands. the lawsuits alone would put them out of business.

many thanks. We are going in tomorrow for the window shades so i will have them look at the seals first. My next project will be to install a Venturi, beats the heck out of closing the windows every time I turn on the gen
  • First off.......the slide out should seal all the way around when extended and retracted. Otherwise water, rain, road debris and fumes can enter the rig.
Sounds like the slide out is not properly adjusted.

Generator fumes should not enter rig unless you have a window open and are using a fan on exhaust pulling the fumes in thru open window.

The Venturi Generator Exhaust system is one way of getting the exhaust fumes above the top of rig

But I would have the dealer correct/adjust the slide out for proper sealing first

Gen on driver side, same as slide out. I just read about the vent exhaust system. Sounds good but also read it will void the warranty...not sure if I want to risk that right now. No issues with slide in so I will do that until I can find a fix. Thanks
  • What side does the Gen. Exhaust come out on?
Some people use a Venturi on there Gen. This move the exhaust up toward the roof.

We also had FW problems. Never again for us.
