And when we to south in the winter time I always stop at Blue Beacon and have them spray on their undercarrage rinse which uses Salt-Away. Blue Beacon only has the undercarrage rinse available at certain locations, but anyone can buy Salt-Away and apply when they wash the rig in their driveway. Very cheap insurance in my book!

Obviously you have never read any of the numerous environmental studies that have been done, which has caused many municipalities to switch from salt to other means of ice control. :R

Hi Bill, Workhorse didn't go out of business someone else bought them out. They were building package cars for United Parcel Service (UPS) last year. I'm a West Coast RV traveler and I get lots of rust on my coach from a liquid solution that California, Oregon and Washington State DOT's put on the Interstate roads, especially Mountain Passes (I'm referring to I-5) when I'm traveling home from AZ. IMHO that stuff is worse then salt! I use a Dewalt battery powered drill with a wire brush attachment to get the rust off then repaint the surface. I bought the wire brush attachment for my Dewalt at Lowes.

Sorry to get away from the rust issue

Far as I know workhorse is still around, Just now belongs to someone else. Navistar bought the company and name, and then sold it, not sure who they sold it to.

I don't have a serious rust issue.

NOTE: many vehicles do develop a bit of what is called "Surface Rust" this is not flaking off the beam type rust and is easily dealt with. It is also normal.

To the OP MichBill: Is this Chassis type frame rust or rust on the coach components?

Take a ride over to Windsor and see if you can find any of the rustproofing places that used to oil the bottoms of the cars. It was an annual thing but could help you. I haven't paid attention lately but it used to be a big thing in Canada to oil your bottom each year.

That may have been enough. I spend winters next to the Gulf in a high salt area. You can get away with 4 weeks, but much after that and you're going to see issues.

Without seeing the amount of rust you have, it's hard to make a conclusion. FWIW, I spray the whole underside with ATF fluid from a dollar store spray bottle. Just make sure you keep it away from hot areas since ATF is flammable. Works well for me.

Another option that some feel is better is the use of Fluid Film.
