Mine failed in a completely different way but locked me out and DW in!
The spring loaded door latch is made of a cheap pot metal, it broke between the spring loaded part and the mechanism that opens the latch, that resulted in latching the door closed and held in place by the spring. DW was freaked! I had to get ladder and tools out, climb back in front window, remove door trim and pry the broken spring loaded latch open. The good news was that it happened at our destination.
We had a new latch overnighted to our next destination. To this day DW is afraid of being locked it.....
