RV park "age restictions"

As the owner of a Airstream I know how ageless they can look. I pained me recently when I had to say NO to a nice couple with a nice looking Airstream motorhome... it was 22 years old. "If a park has age restrictions, they don't want your business anyway. go somewhere else." I'm pretty sure I'll be glad you went elsewhere... it's still a free country.

Pride of ownership is becoming the new rule.

If they ask the year of my Sahara, I tell them. If they mention a 10 year rule, I ask if I can send them a pix of the motor home. If they say no, or it won't make a difference I go somewhere else.

So far I've sent one pic and have never been told to go somewhere else, even at hoytie-toytie Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort (no travel trailers or fifth wheels please!).

I like the "exception approval". I do not like the idea of lying to get into a place.

What they are usually saying in print is that they would prefer not to have yellow school buses, down and out rigs, and converted milk delivery trucks (I've seen them out there). Without a posted restriction the parks action could be viewed as discriminatory against the individual requesting privileges. Camping at a few parks with this restriction I have viewed some lovely classic motorhomes and trailers in excellent condition. We were turned away once in our new Class C. Park Rule: Class A only and not over 10 years old.

I had a resort manager tell me the 10 year rule is a tool for him to disallow RV's that really look bad! He told me if a RV from the 90's came in and it was clean and looked good it could stay!

What does a 10 year rule really mean:

"If you show up here with a piece of junk motorhome or trailer that is dirty or falling apart and looks like **** you can't stay in this park."

Now how many RV parks are going to post a sign that says that? Probably not too many. It's not politically correct. So they post the 10 year rule to keep the riff-raff out and then they can alter the rule depending on what you look like.

Not once in the last 10 years has anybody asked me the age of my rig. They're often more concerned about my dog, which is a big overgrown puppy.

Far and few in between in my experience.
With a rare encounter, they were too expensive anyway.
Then found that the rule was just in place for a just in case scenario and most said to text them a pic, if it was indeed a nice rig.
Another said that they wouldn't take a reservation, but to stop by and see if a space was available....lol
This way, they could check you out.
Most of the time, if you just pull in to one of these, not a word will be said about it, if your rig and your family doesn't scare them.
In all our travels, I don't think we've ever actually stayed in one of these.
