We are hoping to attend an RV show in January. Should we go to the 25th Annual North Carolina RV & Camping Show in Greensboro held January 10-12 or the NCRV Dealers’ Association RV Show in Charlotte held January 24-26? What is the difference? If we would only go to one which one would you suggest and why? We are picking up our Class A sometime in January and are eager to learn all we can. Thanks!

Greensboro RV ShowCharlotte RV ShowI have not personally been to either one, but I attended last years NC RV Dealers Show at the NC State Fair Grounds. (Which is probably very similar to the Greensboro one.) I would think that the Charlotte one would be much larger because of the population. You said you are picking up a class A already. The one thing I noticed was that these RV shows definitely cater to the smaller travel trailers, pop-ups, fifth wheels and some Class A's.IMHO RV shows are just a huge meat market for prospective consumers who have to pay to attend. If you have no idea what you want, have no idea what an RV is or no idea of costs associated with owning an RV then an RV show is a great place to start. There are also a ton of accessory companies, RV parks and resorts trying to fight for your business there. I for one would never attend an RV show. The only reason why I went last year was because a friend of mine was going who had never purchased a camper before.

Consider going to a Good Sam rally or FMCA rally. I went to FMCA once in Charolette and to a Good Sam rally in Atlanta this past fall. Both of them had just about everything from class a s on down and attend some of the seminars. Had a great time, and hope to attend again soon.

We went to Charlotte's January 2013. Quite large for an all-in-one building, but didn't have anything special that suited us. Pay for parking at one of the downtown parking lots and walk a short distance is your only parking option.A few years ago, we went to the one in Greensboro and thought it was better than the one in Atlanta we usually attended. It has onsite parking lot. We actually bought our first 2006 Suite at that show. But had heard that over the years it has gotten smaller.

At the upcoming FMCA International rally in Perry GA, 17-20 Mar 14, there will be 200+ vendors, 130+ seminars on all things RV, and over 100+ show coaches...from all the major manufacturers. If you are not an FMCA member, you can enter the rally site on a day pass to see the vendors, show coaches, seminars and that night's entertainment. I think the cost of that pass is $65 for non-members. You can get more info at fmca.com

Thanks. I go to Tom Johnson's website quite often but so far none of their inventory has matched what we are looking for. We have found a coach that we like and will probably purchase within the next couple of weeks - it is in NC and that is a bonus!

IMO, I would save your time and money and just go to Tom Johnson's RV in Concord and browse their inventory. They are a big dealer with a lot of new and used inventory. Plenty of towables, class C's and many, many Class A rigs.

So what happened was... The NC Dealers had a falling out with camping world. So now there are two shows. The Camping World Show and the NC Dealers Show. The NC Dealers would have more brands since Camping World doesn't carry every brand.
