Black and grey waste tanks have 'vapor barrier' installed
'P' Traps (water), Air Admittance Valves (mechanical), toilet bowl seal (water), toilet floor flange gasket (mechanical) and vent lines that go out top of roof.

Same kind of system a S&B uses..and no odors either.

If you can smell the waste tanks then something is not working properly.
Find it/fix it..instead of mask it with chemicals (then you just have chemical poop smell)

I've used both and really don't have a preference. I like the convenience of the drop-ins, though. What I prefer to use is the GEO method, Water softener, liquid detergent, and bleach, do a search on it. Mr. Bruni got it right. IMHO

I think I camped next to these people.

I don't have a real sensitive nose ..................but something stinks.

Maybe the guy with the 75 gallon holding tank 3/4 full and apparently a vent where you can stand directly under it. I'm sure if I put a ladder up and sniffed around the vent pipe while someone flushes I'd smell something, however there is a reason the pipe exits on the roof 9' above the ground.

Drop in packets. I just like the convenience and no mess.

Liquid Campa-Chem original (blue cap) by Thetford. Buy it the cheapest at Walmart. Follow directions for your size holding tank and in hot weather double the amount. No odors unless we leave the vent fan on or a window open going down the road.

I use the liquid Camco blue or green, depending on what WalMart has in stock. I use the individual bottles. One per tank and one when I empty between trips with about 2 gallons of water/Dawn/Calgon. I'm probably overdoing it, but I don't have odors and so far everything seems to flush out of the tank when I empty and flush it. That liquid is supposed to have a mild digester that hopefully will liquefy any left over solids.... at least in my mind that's how it works and it makes me feel better... LOL!

Why do you think you need a black tank additive???? If you have a odor, it's because you have a problem with your system. A seal may be out, vent tube blocked....etc. The black tank is sealed system (with the exception of the vent tube or when flushing the toilet) and should never emit an odor into the rv.

BECAUSE CHIT stinks that's why and the good additives break down solids(drains better and cleaner) and help keep the odor to a minimum
lots of bathrooms have fantastic vents and most are open.Flush the toilet and the fumes get drawn in is one reason you want tank deodorant. Also a known fact is the BT vents out the roof,when its got a fair amount in it you can quit often get a down pressure or wind and it will stink up the campsite just a couple of many reasons

The only time I use something is if I know we are going to be sitting for a longer than normal period of time. Then I use the blue packets. In fact I usually put them in the tank between uses. Not during use. Should I say between trips.

For over 30 years we have used Thetford Aqua-Kem Dri powder packets. After flushing the tank and closing the valve I fill up the toilet bowl with water, empty one packet and flush. I fill up the bowl with water and flush two more times. Even if the RV has been stored for months, no smell and no smell while using the RV. The enzymes in this product really seem to work. No clogs, no smell and when empty the bottom of the tank is just as white and clean as it was when new.
