Remember, it can get pretty expensive if you register out of state and get caught. As States look for revenue losses, RVs are pretty easy targets....especially if you have out of state tags and plaster your rig with Lake of the Ozarks stickers....below is a link to an older article that I saved shortly after we moved our legal residence to SD. There's others from other States, this is just one I kept since I knew one of the players.

Keep in mind, the things you enjoy about Lake of the Ozarks are paid for with the money you pay the government. I'm not a big fan of taxation, but, like NV, where there's no income tax, they get you somewhere else. You already said, Missouri is your LEGAL residence, so if your register it somewhere else, you run the risk of tax fraud.

The RV lifestyle is to enjoy life...I wouldn't want to be looking over my shoulder all the time....just sayin....Dennis

Sounds like it's kind the same thing as we have in NV. There is a government services tax on vehicles. My first year here in 2010 after moving from ID it was close to $3,000 for the coach. Last year it was ~$2,500. We don't have state income tax and the property tax and insurance on the sticks and bricks is about the same, so bottom line net, we're paying about the same as we did in ID.

The Branson/Table Rock lake area of Missouri is wonderful. My legal residence is Lake of the Ozarks in Mo. Also a great place. Problem is , Mo.takes personal property tax on all prop. every year,that is not real estate... forever.. as you own it. That in my opinion is like taking money out of your bank account every year,...cause they can.

Wherever you pay your federal taxes is where you want to have your vehicles registered....:S....Dennis

We also are SD residents who are not there most of the time. We use Alternative Resources as our mail forwarder and to provide a legal address for us. We did this in 02 when we fled California. After going fulltime in the MH for a year we built a cabin in Mo near Branson and are very careful not to be there over 5 1/2 mos per year. It gets difficult but we go to Calif in the winter and spend time in AZ as well. There are a lot of Escapees from Texas doing the same thing. If we ever drop the lifestyle we'll probably become Missourians!!

It's really a matter of establishing residency in a given state. We have residency in SD via Americas Mailbox. Our motor home and toad are registered in SD and our drivers licenses are from SD. We have a winter home in AZ where we also have a small pickup which is registered in AZ and stays in AZ.

The issue is residency. If we stay in AZ for over 6 months we must become residents of AZ and then would be required to register all of our vehicles in AZ. Because we are only in AZ for less than 6 months we can maintain our SD residency. We document all of our time out of AZ very carefully to ensure that if the state of AZ comes after us we show that we are not in state long enough to establish residency.

As another poster stated, consult an attorney.

I have been a SD resident for 9 years. Requirement is that you cannot
physically be in any other state for more than 6 months in any one year. I am a member of My Home Address Inc. in Emery, SD.
Contact them for more info, there are others in SD.
You can own property in any state.

I had a SD license plate for 5 years on my first rig with no problems. When I bought my currant rig through a dealer they would not transfer my SD plates to the newer rig. Landed up getting home state plates and reg. which in some ways is a relief, especially if we want to go up into Canada.
