Safety flashers

At what speed do you turn on/off your flashers?

I have been told on @ 50% of speed limit or less, off @ 75% of speed limit.

I have been told on & off @ 50% of speed limit or less.

Pro-drivers (truck drivers) dont know either.

Usually if I am going that slow I am following a semi truck going up a hill, when he turns his off, I turn mine off.

IT should not have anything to do with the speed limit relative to your speed. If the speed limit is 70 and all the traffic is doing 35, it would be extremely annoying if you turn your flashers on.

The point is, you should only use your flashers if you are doing something very unusual or unexpected. If you are generally flowing with the rest of the traffic, regardless of your speed, do not turn you flashers on. All you would be doing is being obnoxious to those behind you.
Maybe, but below the posted minimum speed limit on I-90 in NYS without flashers on would get you a traffic ticket. Does not matter if you are being obnoxious or pulling a hill.

All depends on the state. I forgot where it was, I saw a sign that you must use them under 45.
X2!!! And most highways/interstates have a posted minimum speed limit. Anytime I'm below that minimum speed I turn mine on.

And what Dennis said! From what my wife says, I can't figure out how I managed to retire from a trucking career.

  • It is against the law to have them on unless your stoped in many states. If on the interstate and you see a sigh that says to use your 4ways at less then ?? MPH the speed on the sigh is your answer for that location.

I use common sense...if I feel I'm a hazard, I turn them on regardless of the speed and/or speed limit.

My wife says I'm a hazard anyway so I would have to leave them on all the time....:B:B....Dennis
    X2......Great blog Dennis.
