Salesman trying to talk me out of a Class C

So this salesman is trying to put me in a Class A instead of a C. He's got all kinds of reasons. Some of the Class A's he's showing me are less money, so he'll make less commission. But they are so HUGE! He tells me I'll hate the driving experience in a C, and the storage, etc. He's got me doubting myself, but I still think I want something a little easier to get around in. What's your take?

  • I agree. Get what you want and don't let a salesman talk you into something different.

If YOU are questioning what you want, take them out for a test drive and see if one handles more to your liking.

Asking here in the class C board will get you a majority of "I prefer a class C". Asking in the class A board will get you a majority of "I prefer a class A".
  • It’s all about compromises. I really wanted a small class A because the cab area becomes part of living space when setup. But, like poster above, we tow boat...no toad. So the short C met more or our needs.
  • Your handle answers the question quite succinctly. Damdifino.

Get what YOU want, not what the salesman wants you to have, or what we THINK you might want.

  • If the C meets your needs get the C. You say the A's are huge, that could be an issue if you did buy it, YOU need to be comfortable operating it.
  • "What's your take?"

    Sales 101:

A good salesperson finds a way to sell the potential customer what the customer wants.

Be clear on what you want and what you can afford, then, buy what fits your needs. If the salesperson tries to pressure you into something else, thank them, and walk away. Find a better salesperson, or eliminate the salesperson altogether. You are the buyer. Time is your friend, not the salespersons.

  • find another sales person, and if your at CW find another dealer, don,t you read all the stories on here.
  • Our Class C has lots of room (3 slides). The Ford E450 is easy to drive and park and service. It sits lower to the ground than an A so is 1 or 2 steps less in and out. The 3 doors make is easy to get in and out of. It's easier to get up on the roof (I wash my own RV). The cab is not quiet when on the road, have to turn the radio up to hear it. That is probably my biggest complaint. Might have to try that insulation under the floor mats and doghouse.
  • For me I'd rather have a Class C. Class As are great if you full-time and pull a tow vehicle. The extra room inside serves as a home when parked for months or weeks.

We don't full time and we still have a stick and brick. We only use our mh as a "motel room" for long and short vacays. We sleep there and cook there and on occasion when there are no showers at the cg we shower there. I've driven both As and Cs and my Cs have always been easier to drive and park.

Think about whether you're going to use it to full-time (Class A) or keep your permanent house and just RV part time (Class C).
  • I know some Class As have a driver's door but most don't. That alone turns me off and makes me look at Class C units. I'm in and out of the RV a lot: launching and retrieving the boat, hooking and un-hooking trailers, backing into sites, etc.
I pretty much always do everything myself. I don't use a "spotter".
