Samsung 197 Fridge

I'm considering this mod but have a couple of questions for those that have gone this route.

How do you keep the doors secured while traveling or is it not an issue??

If I don't want to convert the outlet to inverter power will the fridge and freezer stay reasonably cold for....say a 9 hour travel day??

Thanks for any input. I don't have a problem with my 1200 yet but I'm sort of planning ahead.
  • I use an elongated horse shoe shaped piece of wood that was covered with some felt. The "U" portion of the shoe is wide enough to fit in between the door handles and the legs are long enough to go down past the freezer compartment. This way, the two doors are locked shut and the freezer is also.

As far as keeping temperatures, yes it will hold for more than 9 hours, no problem.
  • Dick....Some of the Beaver and later, most of the Monacos used an inverted outlet at the rear of the fridge. They used the inverted outlet to run the icemaker. If you look behind your fridge (exterior door) check to see if you have two outlets and two plugs. If you do, one of them is inverted.

If you don't have an inverted plug, you can do what I did. I added a second 600 watt Magnum inverter and ran power to my new refer. This put the residential unit on it's own inverter. Even adding the inverter was cheaper than a new Norcold or Dometic.
  • I just finished installing a new Samsung RF197 in our Itasca Horizon yesterday. For now I just put a loop of Velcro around the two handles and it seems to hold the doors fine. The freezer door seems to stay on it's own. Are you sure your refrigerator isn't already on the inverter circuit? Mine was.
  • We use a bungee cord. There are latches available to do this, care must be use son the install to not hit a coolant line. The Fridge will stay cool during the day if off. We have a 2500W MSW inverter and run the fridge going down the road with no problems. We have also boon docked for 24hrs at a time with plenty of power to run fridge and tv's.

Best mod we've done, although the Travler is a close second.
