Satelite

Hello does anyone have advise on purchasing a satellite dish for my Monaco Camelot, not sure if I should purchase a motion one , or save the grand, I presently have a King Dome and they say the circuit board needs to be replaced and not worth the money being it is a 2008 . I haven't had motion one before and don't think I missed to much !!! Also can you watch a DVD in the coach while traveling without a motion receiver ? Thank You

  • No probs, the DVD isn't even part of the satellite really. It has it's own function. Even a cheap dvd/blu ray player should work.
  • We had a KVH in motion which self destructed..we then got the Traveler for dish and it works great plus I can watch one sports channel while wife watches whatever...It takes about 5 to 8 minutes when you first activate it and will zero in..it also handles tree'ed areas much better than dome did. The other thing is now with tablets, smartphones, etc. anyone can watch what they want while driving..i'll just watch the road and the cameras...When we sold our old HR 2009 and got this one we stayed with the Traveler...and Dish since home is dish.
  • I know it's a lot of money but the money spent on a Trav'ler will re-pay you will years of enjoyment. Not only in the ease of operation but in the way you are able to use the Dish or DirecTV service. Use either service with a DVR (or Genie or Hopper) and if you want to watch TV while driving you can watch those recorded programs without the interruptions due to trees, poles, bridges, etc.

    Sat Antenna facts:
There are two primary providers in the US, Dish and Direct

DOMES work with a SINGLE Dish receiver such as a VIP-211 But if you have a multi-channel DVR or multiple receivers and like to watch different shows at the same time DOMES can only see one satellite at a time, this will cause conflicts

DirecTV domes work well but not with DirecHDTV they do not work at all, only SD, and more and more channels are moving to HD only on DirecHDTV so I'd not recommend a dome.

In motion or not? your choice

DISH type antennas.. You get the dish that matches your service,, Dish or Direct, and it works, one receiver, 2,3,4 Multi channel DVR, it works, period So long as it has a view of hte proper ARC of the sky..

I recommend a tripod mounted dish for times when you are parked under the Evil Signal Eating Tree.

I would spend the money saved or not getting and in motion on a subscription to Sirius XM radio. I feel this music is a safety device as you are not searching for a new station every hundred miles. Yes and in motion would give you this music but it's kind a hard to take that dish to another vehicle.

Like others I threw my POS Kingdome off the roof after repeated expensive repairs. I bought a portable carry out unit instead.
  • Had an older inmotion roof mounted antenna and rarely used it. Between trees, mountains and other obstructions drop signal was pretty common when going down the road. Also since most of our outings are in forested state parks the static mounting on the roof was blocked most of the time. Replaced it with a carry out Winegard. Being potable finding a hole for a clear line of site isn't difficult but antenna can only track one satellite at a time which limits my viewing options with two receivers. Also the dome antennas can not decode HD channels with Direct subscription service.
  • Sold my in motion and installed the Travler. Great HD addition.
  • and yes, you can watch a DVR recording while in motion.
  • I debated the same when our King Dome went out. I've had a Travler by Winegard on our last 5th wheel, so I kicked the King Dome off the roof and installed the Travler - couldn't be happier.

Its not motion, but I don't miss what I never had and the Travler is a far superior antenna to any of the domes.
