Just checked the guide and I have the DNS West channels and HD is just fine.

I never applied for DNS so this is a mystery. I'll check the bill next week.

When you get the right person, all things are possible with DirecTV. Our HD satellite box is part of my Son's account in Maryland. As with the other boxes that are labeled bedroom, living room, etc, our box is listed as the "Florida RV" and was sent directly to our address in Florida by DirecTV. We have full HD service and it added $10/month to my Son's account. We have now had this for almost five years and DirecTV even sent us a replacement box to our Florida address. Easy people to work with once you get the right person.

All of my dealings with direct seem that the person on the other end has a logic tree. If you use the wrong word or they start down the wrong path on the decision tree, then you get really nonsensical answers. The person on the phone doesn't realize the answer doesn't compute.

I think the rep at DirecTV was confused. She may have been giving you the answer for a residential DNS account which they do offer in areas where no local channels are provided. SD or HD in that case is based on what the market provides in their area.
1. ask for an RV account. Use your mailing address. I gave them a credit card for billing. For an RV account they don't give you DNS based on an address. Therefore you should be able to get HD DNS in an RV.
2. submit paperwork for DNS channels.
3. get HD equipment

Our DNS channels are in HD (and also in SD). I think the HD stuff is all enabled when you subscribe to HD service.

I spoke with Directv about the DNS service. The tech told me something I found difficult to accept. She said that the East / West coast network feed would have to come through a standard def box and would be standard not HD. For those of you who have DNS, is that true?

From the looks of this website, someone at DTV must know something about the subject DTV for travelers.

I've had a DNS RV account with them for 10 years. Turn it on when I travel and suspend it when I'm home.

X2. You need to find somebody at DirecTv that knows about us full timers. Ask for information for DNS. And you will need to get the "Distant Network Service" from DirecTv if you want ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX network stations from your sat dish when you go outside the local station area for your permanent address.

You state yoou have a mailing address(Billing) and a service address(Location).
