How do full timers get Direct TV without a home base? They told us we had to have a home base unit.

While I don't have DNS the guide lists HD and SD channels for both E and W. DNS is for folks that don't get local OTA channels and I suspect they would want HD like anyone else. Plus all of the non local HD channels that are available. Her statement doesn't pass the smell test.

You need to talk with somebody who deals with RV users, not the folks who put dishes on houses. As far as DirecTV is concerned, our "home" is a mail service box in Rapid City SD. They did the installation, such as it was, in Wilimington Ohio. And we've done all the paperwork to get "distant networks" so we have access to the off-air networks (ABC, CBS etc) as well.
Plus we bought one of the DurecTV Off-Air tuner boxes, so we can add whatever local signals our TV antenna picks up to our DirecTV DVR.
