Scan Gauge II

Anyone using the Scan Gauge II on a diesel chassis? Just took delivery of our LTV Unity TB and want to install the Scan Gauge II. Would appreciate any feedback from SG II users.

I don't know about the Scangauge, but the Insight automatically adjusts to light conditions.

  • I'm using the Edge Insight CTS and been happy with it. Monitors whatever i want right out of the box. Planning to get the EGT probe installed, and will also accept a rear view camera.
  • If you have an android device such as cell phone, tablet, etc. You may want to look into a bluetooth adapter that plugs into the odbII bus port. Then you can use an app called Torque that allows you to customize as many gauges as you like. The adapter available on Ebay for less than $20 and the Torque app which is $5 and your ready to go.
  • I have one on mine and use it all the time when on trips. When loaded heavily and towing I use the LOD function to give me visibility as to when to downshift.

The OBDII port on the '11 Sprinter is under the fuse box cover so with the gauge plugged in you cannot close the cover unless you either a) trim a hole in the cover, or b) unscrew the Sprinter OBDII connector, hook up the Scangauge connector and tuck the two of them away behind the panel it was screwed to (which is what I did). You can route the wire under the trim, rubber etc along the door/ A pillar to get to the top of the dash.
  • I don't have a diesel or a scan gauge II, but I've been using a 1st generation scan gauge for years. In an F250 pick up as well as a Coachmen V10 powered motor home. I've used it in my new motor home but it's had issues like turning on when everything is turned off. I don't know if it's the gauge screwing up after all these years, or an incompatibility issue with my new V10. That being said I plan on buying a scan gauge II for the new motor home.
As far as your question on the scan gauge II and a diesel, it will work, depending on the protocol in your MH. If it has the OBDII protocol (it probably does) it should work fine. If it has the J1939 or J1708 protocol I believe you need their scan gauge D
