Regarding shipping on the carrier...ya, it probably won't be worth it. I'm sure you can find a used carrier close-by. Try Craigs List and Ebay. People are upgrading all the time from scooters to motorcycles, so you shouldn't have a problem finding one.

You really need to get the weight off the scooter plate, the weight of the carrier, and check the tongue weight limit on the hitch. That would be on a plate on the hitch.

I suggest a carrier, rather than a trailer. First you must ensure that your hitch is rated to carry the weight of the scooter AND the carrier. That would be the "Tongue Weight" rating. Most will carry scooters and carriers without a problem. I think mine was 500 lbs.

The great thing about a scooter is that it can generally be loaded very easily up a ramp onto a carrier by pushing it.

I carry an '87 Honda Elite 250cc (about 280 lbs) on a hitch mounted carrier without any problems. I also use a 5X8 utillity trailer if I want to take along my two kayaks and the scooter. Both ways work great for me. Good luck with what ever you choose.

Kymco Agility 50cc about 200 lbs on a rack in the rear receiver from Harbor Freight.

I carry a big Ruckus scooter 250 cc on a versahaul carrier on the back of my Jeep, and tow both. Scooter #380 lbs. I do not drive the car with the scooter on it, only for towing.

I carry a handicap scooter in my Saturn Vue.

I used to carry my '81 Vespa P200 ( recently sold) on a 4x8 trailer.

No pictures with the Safari but one with the UltraVan.
