Se-Gi Windows (creeping seals)

Good Afternoon
Question about diy window repair.I know this has been discussed before, but I have a '99 DSDP that has the "creeping seals" and found a repair kit ,Dave Root where this can be purchased. Would like to hear from some who have repaired their windows. Windows are not fogged just the seals are creeping out of place and I am concerned that they will fog if not repaired.
Thanks for any advice.
Roy
  • Although you can find the materials cheaper than Dave Roots, The kit Dave provides is complete with tools and materials including detailed instructions and for me that was worth it. Also note there are 2 thicknesses for the spacer/seal. Call Dave Roots and he will ensure that you get the correct one.

I did several Se-Gi windows. The hardest part was separating the panes of glass. The windows I did had a metal spacer in the seal. Cutting the spacer/seal with the metal was time consuming, involving more than a few Band-Aids.

They also recommend a power caulking gun. I would follow that recommendation, appling the sealer with a manual caulking gun would be challenging.
  • We have Segi windows in our 2000 coach that had the seal creep. I checked into Peninsula Glass with a shop in Vancouver, WA that does repair, so on one of our trips to WA state stopped and had our windows repaired. The windows involved were cockpit windows. If interested you might want to check with them. Here's their web site: http://www.peninsulaglass.com/

Best of luck & safe travels

  • Many of us on this forum have done this window repair. It is not technically difficult, but is time consuming.

I have no problem with anyone ordering the kit, but you can find the supplies MUCH CHEAPER on Ebay or Amazon. The sealant for the windows is C.R. LAURENCE 877 CRL Super Spacer Sealant

Here's an example of it on ebay for less than $15 per tube with shipping.

Order the spacer in the correct thickness, order the sealant, and use the tools you already have on hand. You'll save some money.

There is documentation on the process in the files section of the IRV2 forms (link below) ...look for the title fogged window repair.

  • Roy, I did all my on a 99 Newmar, about 5 years ago, so far no an issue with them. I just purchase the sealant and seal and took them apart. Time was a day for the first one and then a couple a day after that. I would have to look up the cost if you want. The sealant was about $10 dollars per window and the sealant is around $60 per roll now and you will need 2 rolls with out knowing how many windows you have.

There are several write up here on the forum and many people did theirs following the steps. PM me if you need any help.

  • You do understand that the complete window must be removed and laid on a work bench to do the repair? It is a tedious job if NOT skilled. Doug
