I moved into a smaller house and when I first staged the home, I got rid of a bunch of stuff and then put stuff not a storage locker. A year later the house had not sold and we went through the storage locker and got rid of a bunch more stuff. Finally sold the house and when we moved in, got rid of a bunch more stuff. Every time we got rid of stuff, it felt really good afterward. Yes, it is hard while you are going through it but take heart - it is very much worth it.
