Haha, I know exactly what you mean. I have ancient VHS recordings of my wife's Great Great grandparents....

ARG I don't want to take the time to do it.
If I was in your shoes on that, I'd snap a hires digital photo of the portraits, and be done with them. You aren't "chunking" the portrait then.
